Dr Dave Tudor, CPI Pharma and Healthtech

Dr Dave Tudor is the Managing Director of CPI Pharma and Healthtech, including the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre (MMIC), a pioneering facility dedicated to revolutionising and accelerating drug development and manufacturing.

With a rich tapestry of leadership spanning over 30 years, Dr Tudor brings unparalleled expertise to his role. As Managing Director his responsibilities include shaping the business strategy of the Centre, a collaborative between CPI, University of Strathclyde, UK Research & Innovation, Scottish Enterprise and founding industry partners, AstraZeneca and GSK. 

The MMIC’s state-of-the-art facility fosters a collaborative environment conducive to knowledge exchange and synergy, empowering innovators to effectively address technical and regulatory challenges, accelerate time to market, gain a competitive edge, and fulfil the growing need for eco-friendly manufacturing practices.

As Managing Director, Dr Tudor is leveraging his experience to propel the pharmaceutical industry into a new era of digital transformation. At the heart of his vision lies the belief that digitalisation holds the key to overcoming the industry's most pressing challenges.

Brett Sharkey, Sterling Pharma Solutions

Brett Sharkey is the visionary leader behind Sterling Pharmaceutical Solution’s groundbreaking apprenticeship programme. 

With a passion for education, Brett is an advocate of learning at every career stage. From nurturing entry-level apprentices to supporting upskillers and reskillers, he believes there’s an apprenticeship standard tailored for everyone.

Having traversed the apprentice lifecycle from diverse perspectives - as a training provider, an endpoint assessment organisation, an employer, and a dedicated apprentice himself - Brett brings a wealth of experience and insight to his role.

Drawing from a decade-long tenure in the chemical manufacturing sector as an analyst, Brett offers a unique perspective that enriches his work. His motivation to share this perspective with others drives him to inspire and empower individuals on their own apprenticeship journeys.

Chris Dobbs, Haleon

Chris Dobbs is the Global Engineering Sustainability Lead at Haleon, the world's largest dedicated consumer health company. With over 25 years of progressive experience in regulated manufacturing, Chris spearheads the integration of sustainable engineering practices aimed at reducing Haleon’s environmental footprint. His expertise encompasses collaborating across 25 operational sites spanning Latin America, North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and China, ensuring that sustainable solutions are ingrained into the company’s core strategies.

Chris adopts an inclusive and innovation-driven approach to leadership, fostering cross-functional teamwork to seamlessly integrate sustainable solutions that not only minimise environmental impact but also enhance overall business value. He firmly believes that sustainability should be woven into the fabric of operations, contributing not only to environmental stewardship but also to the company’s bottom line.

In addition to his pivotal role at Haleon, Chris is an active participant in professional engineering societies and sustainability forums, lending his insights to industry discussions and driving the adoption of best practices.

Prior to joining Haleon, Chris served as the Head of Engineering at PCI Pharma Services, a prominent pharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organisation. During his tenure, he implemented strategies aimed at fostering safe working environments, enhancing operational efficiency, and championing sustainability through innovative solutions.

Chris holds a BSc Hons in Mechatronics (Electrical and Control Engineering) and a postgraduate certificate in Sustainable Technology & Resource Management from the University of South Wales. Furthermore, he has completed the Business Sustainability Management programme at the University of Cambridge, further enriching his expertise in sustainability leadership and management.

Chris, leveraging his extensive experience and leadership in sustainable engineering, will take the stage to present on Integrating Sustainability Practices for a Healthy Future at the ISPE Summer Conference. Attendees can expect to glean invaluable insights from his expertise honed over years of fostering environmental stewardship and driving business value.

Sarah Furness, MA Cantab RAF

Sarah's journey is nothing short of remarkable. A graduate of Cambridge University, she pursued her childhood dream of becoming a combat helicopter pilot in the RAF. Rising to the rank of Squadron Leader, Sarah led operational combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, notably as the first female helicopter pilot to fly and lead UK Special Forces missions in Iraq.

Through her experiences, Sarah unearthed two profound truths: resilience and performance under pressure are not innate qualities, but rather learned skills, and humans possess an extraordinary capacity to excel and lead under pressure when equipped with the right tools. With a singular mission driving her, Sarah is determined to share the secret to outstanding resilience, performance, and courage "under fire."

Nick Kesterton, PM Group, ISPE Southern Chair 

Nick Kesteron, a prominent figure in the pharmaceutical industry, is set to captivate the audience with his insightful presentation on the ISPE Pharma 4.0 Baseline Guide at the upcoming ISPE Summer Conference. As the esteemed Chair of the Southern Committee for ISPE, Nick exemplifies a deep commitment to advancing pharmaceutical practices and technologies.

With a wealth of experience spanning several years, Nick currently serves as a smart manufacturing specialist within PM Group’s Technology and Innovation team. He remains at the forefront of cutting-edge developments reshaping the industry.

Nick's journey parallels the evolution of Industry 4.0 and Pharma 4.0, having keenly observed their inception and subsequent realisation. His unwavering dedication to the advancement of these paradigms positions him as a leading authority in the integration of technology within pharmaceutical manufacturing processes.

In November, the release of the Pharma 4.0 Baseline Guide marked a significant milestone in the industry's trajectory towards digital transformation. Nick will provide an overview and update on this pivotal document, shedding light on the collaborative efforts of the Community of Practice (COP) and its implications for the future of pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Attendees can anticipate an engaging session as Nick shares his expertise, offering invaluable insights into the intersection of theory and reality within Pharma 4.0. Sarah Matson, ISPE Women in Pharma Lead 

Sarah Matson is a visionary leader dedicated to advancing diversity and inclusion within the pharmaceutical industry. As ISPE's Women in Pharma Lead, she spearheads initiatives aimed at breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for women. With a strong background in pharmaceutical sciences and a passion for empowering others, Sarah is committed to fostering an environment where women can thrive professionally and personally.

Throughout her career, Sarah has been a vocal advocate for gender equality and has championed initiatives to address the unique challenges faced by women in the field. Her strategic leadership and collaborative approach have been instrumental in driving meaningful change within the industry. Under her guidance, ISPE's Women in Pharma group has grown into a dynamic community of professionals dedicated to creating a more equitable and inclusive pharmaceutical sector.

Sarah's dedication to empowering women extends beyond her role at ISPE, as she actively mentors aspiring professionals and works to create pathways for career advancement. Her tireless efforts have earned her recognition as the winner of the ISPE Member of the Year Award in 2023, and she continues to inspire others to join the movement towards a more diverse and inclusive pharmaceutical industry.

Tamara Hamovic, ISPE Women in Pharma 

Tamara Hamovic is a distinguished CSV specialist with over a decade of validation experience in the pharmaceutical industry. With a background in Industrial Microbiology and extensive expertise in sterile and low bioburden processes spanning 17 years, Tamara brings a unique perspective to her role as a key contributor to ISPE's Women in Pharma initiatives.

As a passionate advocate for gender diversity and inclusion, Tamara is committed to leveraging her expertise to drive meaningful change within the industry. At the ISPE Summer Conference, she will provide an update on the progress and impact of the Women in Pharma initiatives, sharing insights and best practices to inspire others to join the movement towards a more equitable and inclusive pharmaceutical sector.

Tamara's dedication to empowering women is reflected in her strategic approach and collaborative leadership style. Through her advocacy and activism, she seeks to create a workplace where all voices are heard and valued, and where diversity of thought thrives. With her extensive experience and unwavering commitment to driving positive change, Tamara is helping to shape a future where women excel and succeed in the pharmaceutical industry.

Jodie Winder, ISPE Emerging Leaders Chair

Jodie Winder is a Senior Process Engineer at TriRx Pharmaceutical Services, based in Liverpool, UK. With a background steeped in the Biopharmaceutical sector, Jodie has emerged as a prominent figure within the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE) UK Affiliate.

Jodie joined the ISPE UK Affiliate board in April 2023 and this marked a significant milestone in her career trajectory and demonstrates her ongoing commitment to advancing pharmaceutical engineering in the UK. As Chair of the Emerging Leaders initiative within the ISPE UK Affiliate, Jodie advocates for the interests of young professionals in the pharmaceutical sector. Through tailored events and initiatives, she ensures that emerging leaders have a platform to voice their ideas and access opportunities for professional growth and development.

Jodie's tenure on the board extends until June 2025, during which she will continue to drive forward the agenda of empowering emerging leaders and contributing to the broader advancement of pharmaceutical engineering. 

Her leadership and vision promise to shape a brighter future for the industry, fostering innovation and excellence for years to come.

Dr Peter Dodd, ISPE (Past Chair)

Dr Peter Dodd commenced his career in Chemical Engineering at ICI Billingham, where he served as the last Fermentation Engineer overseeing the world's largest fermenter, which operated continuously for months necessitating meticulous sterile engineering. 

He played a pivotal role in pioneering the world's first continuous GMO product and served as a technical leader in the manufacture of microbial and plant-based bioplastics. Notably, he spearheaded the startup of Fujifilm Diosynth's commercial-scale microbial biopharmaceutical facility and held various key positions such as Head of Manufacturing, Head of Commercial QA, and Site Director for Fujifilm's Billingham site.

His expertise extends to Business Development, Mammalian Plant Qualification, and extensive experience as Gold Command for Site Emergencies. Predominantly, he focused on process development, successfully scaling up and transferring numerous biopharmaceutical processes. Post-retirement, he facilitated the tech transfer of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine to a different continent and played a crucial role in ISPE UK's Covid-19 response efforts.

Peter has been an active member of ISPE for over two decades, serving as the UK Affiliate Chair from 2015 to 2017 and as Co-Chair from 2022 to 2024.
